Leave When You Need To.

That's not a tagline. It's our actual policy. No contracts. No lock-in. No cancellation fees hiding in small print. Our herd share is month-to-month because we are confident in what we produce — and because we believe you should stay because the milk earns it, not because a clause says you have to.

When you join, you become a legal part-owner of our milking herd under North Carolina herd share law. The milk you collect each week is yours — from your cows, by right — and you're paying us a boarding fee to care for your animals, manage the milking, and ensure every batch meets the standard we'd want for our own family.

Why 'Herd Share' and Not Just 'Raw Milk Subscription'?

North Carolina law permits the distribution of raw milk to the owners of the animals producing it. A herd share agreement legally establishes your co-ownership of the herd. This isn't a workaround — it's a long-standing, legitimate framework that gives you direct access to your own animals' milk, and gives us a clear, legally sound structure for producing and distributing it.

It also means something more than a legal technicality: you're not a customer, you're a co-owner. You're welcome on the farm any time. You get the same transparency we give ourselves — test results, health updates, and honest communication when something changes.

A Few FAQs

We’d love to welcome you to the VenAya family. Have questions about our A2A2 milk or the herd-share program?

Is raw milk safe?

Raw milk from a well-managed, regularly tested herd is handled with the same seriousness as any food production operation — in many cases, more. Our herd undergoes more testing than is legally required, and we publish every result. That said, raw milk is not pasteurised and carries a different risk profile than processed milk. We encourage every prospective member to read about herd share programmes and make an informed decision for their family. We're happy to talk through any concerns directly.

What does A2A2 actually mean for digestion?

Most commercial dairy cows carry an A1 beta-casein gene variant. Research suggests A1 casein may trigger digestive discomfort in some people — bloating, inflammation, loose digestion — that is often misattributed to lactose intolerance. A2A2 milk contains only the A2 protein, structurally more similar to the casein in human breast milk. Many people who've struggled with conventional dairy — including store-bought A2 milk — find that raw A2A2 milk from a grass-fed, soy-free herd sits completely differently in their system. Our herd is DNA-tested to confirm A2A2 status for every milking cow.

What does the milk actually taste like?

Richer than store milk. Slightly sweet. Noticeably golden — from the beta-carotene in Guernsey milk specifically. There's a cream top that rises in the jar. Most of our members describe it as the first time milk has tasted like something. A few have told us they cried the first time they tasted it — which sounds dramatic until you've spent years avoiding dairy and then find something that finally agrees with you.

Can I visit before signing up?

Yes. Come and see the operation, meet the cows, watch a morning milking if you want. We believe the best way to trust a farm is to visit one. Contact us and we'll arrange it around a morning when the herd is active.

What if I need to pause or cancel?

One message. We'll sort it. No forms, no cancellation fees, no awkward conversation. Month-to-month means month-to-month.
